International Student's Entry Requirements
International students who would like to study in Jabin Hopkins on Student visa must meet both academic and English language requirements to enroll for a course. You may find specific course entry requirement in the particular course page/brochure but the common requirements are given below:
- Age
Students must be minimum 18 years old at the date of commencement of the course. We do not enrol under 18 international students.
- Academic
Applicants must demonstrate that they possess the educational background, vocational knowledge or relevant work
experience necessary to successfully complete their chosen qualification.
- Certificate III and Certificate IV Qualifications
Applicants are generally expected to have completed:
- Certificate III – Year 10 or equivalent.
- Certificate IV – Year 11 or equivalent.
- Diploma and Advanced Diploma Qualifications
Applicants are generally expected to have completed:
- Diploma and Advanced Diploma – Year 12 or equivalent.
Some qualifications may also require applicants to satisfy prerequisite units/qualifications, licensing requirements or
industry-specific entry requirements.
Where formal educational qualifications are not available, JHIT may consider relevant vocational education,
employment history and demonstrated industry experience when determining suitability.
Each application is assessed individually, taking into account:Â
- previous education and qualifications;
- vocational education and training completed;
- employment history and relevant work experience (where applicable);
- knowledge and skills relevant to the proposed qualification; and
- the applicant’s capacity to successfully participate in and complete the course.
Where overseas qualifications require clarification, JHIT may request additional documentation or certified
translations before making an admission decision.
- English Language
Any of the followings:
- Overall English language tests score: IELTS 6.0 or equivalent, or
- Satisfactory ELICOS certificate or evidence of ELICOS admission prior to this course, or
- Citizenship and Passport of one of the following English-speaking countries: UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand or Republic of Ireland, or
- Having successfully completed 5 years of study in English in Australia, South Africa or any of the countries listed above, or
- Having successfully completed a substantial component of a course at the Certificate IV or higher level or completed senior secondary certificate in last 2 years, or
- Internal LLN assessment according to ACSF (Australian Core Skills Framework) for students from low risk countries for Student Visa purpose.
These are the options to be eligible to enrol into the Jabin Hopkins courses. Student must check and fulfil the English language requirement for the visa if applicable.

- Additional English Language Assessment
Where JHIT is unable to determine an applicant’s English language capability from the evidence provided, or where
further confirmation of English language proficiency is considered necessary, applicants may be required to complete
a JHIT English Language Assessment as part of the admissions and Pre-Training Review (PTR) process.
The assessment enables JHIT to:
- determine whether the applicant has sufficient English language skills to undertake the proposed course;
- identify any English language support that may be required before or during enrolment;
- ensure the applicant is enrolled in a course appropriate to their language proficiency; and
- support successful participation, progression and course completion
Where the assessment identifies that additional English language support is required, JHIT will discuss appropriate
support strategies with the applicant before enrolment or, where appropriate, recommend further English language
study prior to commencing the principal course.
- Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
International students studying in Australia on a Student visa must maintain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
for the duration of their visa in accordance with Australian Government requirements.
Applicants may:
- arrange their own OSHC through an approved provider; or
- authorise JHIT to arrange OSHC on their behalf.
Evidence of valid OSHC must be provided before a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) is issued.
- Personal Learning Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate that they are able to meet the inherent requirements of their chosen course, including,
where applicable:
- communication skills;
- physical or clinical requirements;
- digital literacy and technology skills;
- participation in practical training and workplace-based learning; and
- any licensing or industry-specific requirements.
Where an applicant discloses a disability, medical condition or learning support need, JHIT will discuss reasonable
adjustments and available support services prior to enrolment to determine whether the applicant can participate in
the course while maintaining the integrity of the training product.
